Play the sorting game with your child to develop sorting/classification skills. Use toys, items from your house that you and your child can sort. Make two circles on the floor with a string or other object.
Here is how the game works:
1. The parents sorts the objects selected (example, blue vs. not blue, shiny vs. not shiny) by placing one group of objects inside each circle.
2. The child tries to guess how the objects are sorted.
3. Then after your child has mastered the concept of sorting, have him/her sort the objects and the parent guesses how they were sorted.
This activity allows the parent to talk about how objects are alike and different.
